StartupBritain – a rescue package for entrepreneurs?
StartupBritain.org is a new campaign by leading entrepreneurs with full backing from the Prime Minister David Cameron to help inspire and accelerate the starting and growing businesses of other entrepreneurs in Britain.
It is fair to say that the campaign has its supporters and its haters – many of whom have called the initiative nothing more than a Government-backed link farm promoting worthless discounts with partners eager to tap into the startup market.
In all fairness, it has some pretty serious entrepreneurs involved and not just the usual suspects; leading business figures like Jamie Murray-Wells (read our interview with him), Duncan Cheatle and Rajeeb Dey. The discounts aren’t amazing but they certainly go a long way to helping the cash-strapped young business and most of the essentials are included such as business cards, payment processing and office space.
I think it is a little rich for the Prime Minister to face up this initiative when he has done little in terms of financial investment to aid the campaign or indeed to help small businesses which he himself described as the real engine for growth in the British economy.
It is easy to slate these kinds of initiatives and ignoring the discount side of the site there are certainly an abundance of interesting sites and content to explore which makes it a great hub for any startup entrepreneurs feeling a little bit lost in the sea of information out there.
